Students earn top ratings at competition
The Carroll County High School Band of Gold recently competed at the KMEA 5th District Solo and Ensemble Assessment Feb. 23. The following students performed and received a distinguished rating: Kayla Meadows, Katelyn Wright, Chris Sholdebrand, Asha Fernandez, Micah Wallace (three distinguished ratings), Shelby Rauck (four distinguished ratings), Sarah Hawkins (three distinguished ratings), Victoria Bennett (three distinguished ratings), Sylvia Cruz, Jackie Stout (three distinguished ratings), Kathryn Gillespie (two distinguished ratings), Matt O’Neal (two distinguished ratings), Josh Fryman (three distinguished ratings) and David Castellon.
Three seniors honored at math competition
Carroll County High School senior Thomas Hill scored the school’s highest score on the American Mathematics Contest Exam. Seniors Jacob Beach and Noah Abercrombie had the second and third place scores, respectively.
Chaffins completes Army basic training
Army Reserve Pvt. James M. Chaffins has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises, along with much more military training.
Chaffins is a 2011 graduate of Carroll County High School, Carrollton.
