U.S. 42 from Bedford to State Hwy. 36 in Carroll County was closed for nearly two days after a single-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer hauling hydrogen peroxide.
The wreck occurred at the bottom of Bedford Hill at 6:33 a.m. when the eastbound tractor-trailer left the road and struck an earthen embankment. The tank overturned and began leaking its contents, according to Trooper Seth Willis, public information officer, for Kentucky State Police Post 5 in Campbellsburg.
In a news release, Willis reported that the driver, Eleuterio Piaz of Madison, Wis., was wearing his seat belt and was not injured. Inattention by the driver and loss of control of the vehicle are considered contributing factors. The leak was contained, and no lasting or damaging affects from the leak are expected.
The accident remains under investigation. Look for more information on this accident in the July 29 issue.
