Team building, Geocaching event a success

-A A +A

Jefferson Community and Technical College-Carrollton Campus held a Teambuilding and Geocaching event. The second annual event took place on Friday, Oct. 7 at General Butler State Park. Twenty-two students participated in the various leadership and team building activities.

Dr. Telly Sellars, Counseling Supervisor at the Downtown Campus, led the team building portion of the day.  Dr. Sellars guided the students through various activities, explained the different types of learning styles, and had the group complete a survival activity. After the presentation students enjoyed lunch provided by Two Rivers Restaurant and paid for through student organization funds.

In the afternoon the group took part in Geocaching, a high-tech treasure hunt.  Geocaching requires participants to use GPS receivers to hunt hidden containers. Containers range from small plastic boxes to items as large as metal ammo cans filled with small trade items.

This event featured Geocaches hidden around General Butler State Resort Park. The hunt required students to work in teams using the GPS receiver and hints to find as many caches as possible in the hour and a half time limit.

Students enjoyed the day and look forward to participating in next year’s event.

A special thanks to Andy Anderson for coordinating the Geocaching portion of the event, Dr. Telly Sellars, General Butler State Resort Park, Barnes and Noble Bookstore, Sara Clifton, Tom Buchanan, and Caroline Reisner.   Videos and pictures of the Teambuilding and Geocaching Event can be found on JCTC-Carrollton Campus’ Facebook page.
