Team praises department

-A A +A
By The Staff

To the editor,

On behalf of the Trimble County Raider boys basketball team, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department for allowing us to use their facility to host our first annual “Haunted House” fundraiser, held Friday, Oct. 31 and Saturday, Nov. 1.

The Bedford Fire Department volunteers have gone above and beyond the call of duty, in our opinion, to support our Trimble County High School athletic programs by always extending a helping hand. Not only were we allowed to use their facility to host this event, they also participated in the event as well. Chief Michael Barnes has the same response whenever asked to help with an athletic fundraising event, “Anything we can do to help the kids is what we want to do.” That statement says it all.

Jonathan Barnes, a volunteer fire fighter, was especially helpful by offering tools, suggestions, lifting help, props, lighting and, most of all, encouragement and moral support. Jonathan also added a significant character role both nights of the event.

This particular fundraiser was dedicated to new uniforms for our team. We, together as a community, raised over $500 toward that goal.

Each member of the boy’s basketball team participated in this event by reviving scenes from many different horror movies of the past and present. We have an excellent group of kids who are very dedicated to the basketball program and each other. Giving up both a Friday and Saturday night as a teenager is a pretty significant sacrifice and they all did this without hesitation. Dedication such as this is rare and something to be extremely proud of.

Again many thanks to the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Michael Barnes and Trimble County for contributing to another successful fund raising event where positive motivation and teamwork are the ultimate goals for the future of Raider basketball.

Sincerely,

Bob Lauster
