The defending champion of the Indiana Governor’s Cup Race will have a new look and a new name when competing in the Madison Regatta next month.
The former U-16 Ellstom’s Elam Plus is now the U-96 Spirit of Qatar, according to an announcement made by the team.
The hydroplane team’s former bright orange color scheme has been replaced by white, trimmed in red and light blue. Dave Villwock, the sport’s winningest active driver with 59 career victories, returns to the cockpit for the 2010 H1 Unlimited season.
Twelve Unlimiteds, including the defending National High Point Champion Oh Boy! Oberto—also known as Miss Madison—are expected to compete in the July 2-4 race in Madison.
Event planners also expect about a dozen automotive-powered hydroplanes to compete in a separate class of racing.
Admission wristbands for the July 2-4 Lucas Oil Indiana Governor’s Cup Race are $20 when purchased in advance prior to June 27. The wristband price increases to $25 beginning June 28 and thereafter. Children ten and under are admitted free of charge. Wristbands are valid for all three days July 2, 3, and 4. Wristbands may be purchased at the Madison Regatta office on Vaughn Drive between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
