Seventh grader Malachi Corbin propelled the Carroll County Middle School boys track and field team to 18 out of 56 with his one-man-effort in Saturday’s KTCCCA Middle School State Meet held at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington.
Corbin placed 2nd in shot put with a new personal record of 42 feet 10 inches. The only athlete to finish with a better throw had to break a middle school state record to do so, head coach Joe Creager said in an email. Corbin was the only seventh grader to finish in the top 15.
He finished 3rd in discus with a throw of 128 feet 8 inches, besting his personal record by over 12 feet. He also placed 9th in the turboja – 92 feet 2 inches – without ever having thrown the event before.
“Seeing as Malachi was the only competitor for Carroll County, it is extremely impressive that he was able to defeat over 30 teams,” Creager said. “Congrats go out to Malachi for his accomplishments this season, and we look forward to seeing his progression over the next five years.”
