The recession has taken its toll on many people, even all the way down to me a delivery driver. Prices go up, tips go down.
I would like to clear something up, when businesses say “Free Delivery,” you can bet you’re still paying one way or another, like buying a minimum for example. Schools charging on P.O. accounts never tip their delivery driver as well as members of the community. People seem to forget how hard it is to raise kids or try and pay your way through school, just because you don’t know your delivery driver doesn’t mean they aren’t having any of the same issues as anyone else.
When a business charges a delivery fee that doesn’t necessarily mean that the delivery driver receives any or all of it. A delivery driver lives off his/her tips. From gas to vehicle maintenance which is the driver’s responsibility not the business’s.
A delivery driver is convenience; they bring food to you to save you the trip of going to get it yourself. So just keep in mind that next time I bring you something, I’m saving you a trip, and money. Out of common courtesy, take care of your delivery driver because they take care of you. A waiter/waitress gets 15 percent of the bill, am I not doing the same job that they do? I use my vehicle rain, snow and shine.
