Track team finishes 2nd, 3rd in home meet

The Carroll County High School track and field team competed against Williamstown, Walton-Verona, Grant County, Trimble County, Owen County, Holmes High School and Holy Cross of Covington Tuesday, April 19 at Grant. The boys’ team finished in second place behind Holmes, while the girls’ team finished in third place behind rivals Trimble County and Walton-Verona.

Boys results: Tyler Grant, second in triple jump, long jump and 200 meter dash; Ric Reichart, sixth in shot put; Dallas Wheeler, fifth in discus; Ben Newby, second in discus; Dylan Jack, fifth in high jump and 110 hurdles; Devin Gray, third in the 800 meter run and fifth in the 400 meter dash; Evan Mefford, first in the 300 hurdles and second in the 400 meter dash; Brody Newby, fourth in the 100 meter dash; and Ben Schirmer, sixth in the 100 meter dash.

The 4x100 team of Ben and Brody Newby, Schirmer and Grant finished in second place. The 4x200 team of Ben and Brody Newby, Schirmer and Brad Osborne finished in third place. The 4x400 relay team (Mefford, Gray, Schirmer and Taylor Byrd) placed third with an improved time of 25 seconds.

Girls results: Nora Fremin, first place in the 100 meter dash and 100 Hurdles; Andie Hardesty, sixth in the 400 meter dash and third in high jump; Lauren Holloway, fifth place in the 300 hurdles and sixth in high jump; MaryEsther Fremin, fourth in the 200 meter dash; Valentina Osorio, sixth in the 3200 meter run; Kelly Layton, fourth in triple jump; Ashley Srouder, fourth in shot put and discus; and Raenah Hawkins, fifth in discus. Sixth graders Jenna Richmond and Haley Dermon also had strong finishes, third and fourth place, respectively, in the 1600 meter run in their first appearances as varsity runners.

The 4x100 team (MaryEsther and Nora Fremin, Hardesty and Kristen Amick) finished in second place, while the 4x400 team (Hardesty, Hawkins, Sydney Brewer and Layton finished in third place.
