Time is running out to pre-register online for the Tuttle Tots 3K that will take place June 14 at the Carroll County Park.
Adult pre-registration for the walking 3K or running 3K races is $25 and pre-registration for children is $15. Pre-registration ends June 5 and those who pre-register are guaranteed a T-shirt. On-site registration also is available, but T-shirts cannot be guaranteed.
The event is sponsored in memory of Caroline Tuttle, a 3-year-old from Sanders who died in the Carroll County bus accident Oct. 29, 2012.
Stacy Tuttle, Caroline’s mother, organized the event and is hoping for at least 100 participants and would like to raise more than $5,000 for the Tuttle Tots Educational Scholarship Fund.
“Caroline was known as the ‘Tuttle Tot’ in the hallways of the school,” Tuttle said. “She was a peppy, lively child.”
The fund was established Oct. 30, 2012, the day after Caroline’s death and will help early childhood development teachers in Carroll, Gallatin and Trimble counties.
“We want to put quality, educated teachers back in the classroom,” Tuttle said. “A lot are underpaid for the work they do.”
Sponsoring a 3K walk/run in memory of Caroline was her oldest daughter Clara’s idea, Tuttle said.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the 3K for walkers starting at 9 a.m., followed by the 3K for running participants, which begins at 10 a.m. The running 3K race is broken into different age groups for participants younger than 14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and participants older than age 70.
An awards ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the running 3K at 11:30 a.m. where the overall male and female champion will be honored, along with the top 3 participants in the walking and running races.
Vendors will have booths with merchandise available for purchase from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. Some of the vendors already scheduled for the event include Origami Owl, Mary Kay, Pink Zebra, and Paparazzi Accessories and Jewelry. To set up a booth, vendors can go to the online registration site or contact Stacy Tuttle at (502) 525-5381.
