A “Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans” celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 18-19 at AMVETS post No. 67, Clay City Park in Clay City, Ky. sponsored by the Task Force Omega of Ky. and AMVETS post No. 67. Saturday festivities will begin with a luncheon at 11 a.m., free to all Vietnam Veterans with a $5 charge for all others. At noon there will be a talent competition with two categories, 15 years old and younger and over 16 years old. There will be cash prizes for first, and second place winners. An auction starts at 3 p.m., there will be a 50/50 drawing. Candle Light Ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m. featuring veteran Gerald McCullar, who will demonstrate a prisoner of war trapped in a tiger cage, there will be a tribute to Vietnam KIA and POW/MIAs. The Hard Knox Band and Vearl Pennington and Here for the Party Band will be part of the celebration. The Vet center will be on hand all day.
On Sunday, Aug. 19 there will be a poker run, registration begins at 11 a.m., cost is $15 per hand and begins at 1 p.m. sharp. All modes of transportation, cars, trucks and motorcycles are welcome, are encouraged to join.
