Anyone who is a resident of Trimble County and is 18 years old – or will be before the next General Election on Nov. 2, 2010 – is eligible to vote in the May 18 Primary Election.

The deadline to register as a voter in the county is Monday, April 19.

Voter registration is available at Trimble County Clerk Jerry Powell’s office, located in the new addition of the Trimble County Courthouse in Bedford. New residents also may register to vote when they renew or update their drivers licence in the District Court clerk’s office, also in the courthouse.

Voters who are registered Democrats may cast a ballot for the Democratic Primary, which includes all Trimble County offices.

Voters who are registered Republicans may only cast a ballot in the Republican Primary, which in Trimble County will only include the race to determine the nomination for the 26th state Senate seat. Incumbent Ernie Harris of Crestwood will vie for the Republican nomination against Don Godfrey of La Grange, Ky. The winner then will face off against Democratic challenger John Black in the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 2. Black is running unopposed in the Democratic Primary.

The deadline to change party affiliation before the Primary was Dec. 31.

Any voter wishing to change parties or register for the Nov. 2 election still has time. Call the county clerk’s office at (502) 255-7174 for more information.
