Westside fund-raiser grows again this year

-A A +A

I wanted to start with a big thank-you to the community for supporting the Westside Volunteer Fire Department fund-raiser on Saturday night. We had an amazing turnout.

I started fund-raising for the Westside Christmas for Kids in 2010. I have enjoyed watching it grow bigger and bigger each year. It was started with the thought of showing our volunteer firefighters and their families how much we appreciate and respect their time and commitment to this community. They are just that, volunteers; they jump when their pagers go off  to help someone in need — not for a pay check, but because they care.

I thought being  able to bless their children at this most special time of year, Christmas, was the least we could do to show them that their efforts do not go unnoticed. Through the grace of God and the support of many individuals, this was the biggest event yet.

There are so many people to thank, starting with the people who gathered the donations to auction. Without you getting out there hitting the streets, there would not of been an auction.

Thank you to the businesses in our community and individuals that donated: Webster Drugs, Sgt. Sissy’s Bait and Tackle, Cornerstone Floral and Gifts, Design with the Tymes, Papa John’s, Subway, Snappy Tomato Pizza, Parklane Haircuts, The Cutting Edge, Mary Jane’s Pet Grooming, Alpha Machine and Mobile Repair, Advance Auto, Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Christel Lewellyn, Shannon Desmith, Mary Mefford, and Bill and Irene Mertz. A big thank-you, also, to the ones who donated money to purchase items to cook the spaghetti dinner.

Thank you to the members of Calvary Full Gospel Church for cooking and serving the spaghetti dinner. Brother Bimp and Sheila McAlister, Mark and Deanna Davis and Christy Rowlett – you all are truly amazing. I want to thank Avona Mefford and Christina McArter for jumping in and helping me with the auction and taking in the money.

Thank you to everyone in the community who came out to support our cause. None of it would have been possible without your generosity.

Thank you Westside volunteer firefighters and their families for their continued dedication to this community. God bless each and everyone of you, Merry Christmas.
