The distinct twang of the banjo echoed through the General Butler State Resort Park lodge, as actor David Hurt brought country musician and comic Louis Marshall “Grandpa” Jones to life. More than 50 people attended the Kentucky Chautauqua presentation April 20, co-sponsored by Carroll County Arts Board and Friends of Butler. The Kentucky Humanities Council provides funding for the statewide Chautauqua program.

Carroll County Public Library recently received additional Mary Ann Gentry art pieces, books and essays that were donated by her son Charlie Baglan. Pieces that show the natural part of Carrollton, Carroll County and Madison, Ind. will be featured in the 2017 Naturally Mary Ann art show that opens Friday, April 28, at the Carroll County Public Library. The artist reception is 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Benefit Ride for Baby Noah will be held Saturday, April 29. Registration is from 10:30-11:45 a.m. at McCool’s Landing in Ghent. The ride begins at noon and will end at McCool’s Landing.
Noah is the son of Jeff Welch and Melissa Tipton of Ghent. He was born Jan. 18, 2017, with two rare conditions: tracheal esophageal fistula-type H and ateiatic encephlecle. This event is being held as a fundraiser for his medical treatment.
Hello once again, my friends. It’s hard to believe that we already find ourselves in warm weather, pondering baseball games and camping trips. With all the great sights and sounds of spring we switch our focus to lighter foods and outdoor preparations. In essence its time to pull out the ole grill and fire that baby up. I certainly know the feeling of anticipation when the first warm days arise and the only thing we can think of is burgers or steaks on the grill.
