• 4-H trap shooting meeting April 22

    The 4-H Trap shooting sports team will hold its first meeting at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 22, behind Kinman Chevrolet. Trap shooting coach Randy Glauber said all interested youth are invited to attend. He said 4-H has shotguns youth can use and the targets and ammunition are provided by grants 4-H receives from several shooting organizations.

    Glauber said all the instructors are certified. The meeting and practice sessions are usually held on Sunday afternoons.

    These children were the winners of The News-Democrat’s 2018 Easter Coloring Contest, sponsored by Hometown Pizza. Every participant received a coupon for a free individual pizza and the winners also received a coupon for a free large pizza.

    The Carroll County Public Library is located at 136 Court Street in Carrollton. Celebrate National Poetry Month with a poetry contest and poetry reading at the library, entries in four categories, Elementary School, Middle School, High School and Adult. Submit original poetry by April 21 in person or by e-mail to information@carrollcountylibrary.org. Include your name, age and phone number. On Saturday, April 28 at noon, there will be a reception and display of all entries with a reading of winning poems. Prizes awarded in each category.

  • Kinman named new general manager at Kinman Chevrolet

    Kevin Kinman has joined Herb Kinman Chevrolet in Carrollton as the dealership’s new general manager.

    Kevin, a Carroll County native, has a degree in business management. He has spent much of his career working in the community’s plants and mills.

    While these were great experiences, he said he opted for something new and different in automotive sales when his wife, Dana, was offered a position at a Florida fitness company.

  • Heritage Day set for May 19

    Port William Historical Society met March 27, at the Masterson House with 13 attendees. PWHS President Deborah Garrett welcomed everyone to the meeting. The minutes of the January workshop were approved. The treasurer’s report was reviewed and approved.

    Garrett stated that a request had been made to the Carrollton City Council and Carroll County Fiscal Court for $5,000 from each group.
