A 2005 Carroll County High School graduate and Carrollton, Kentucky native is serving in the U.S. Navy as part of a crew working aboard one of the world’s most advanced ballistic missile submarines, USS Wyoming (SSBN 742).
Petty Officer 3rd Class Joshua Craig is an electronics mate serving aboard the Kings Bay-based boat, one of 14 Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines.
Jake A. Thompson has joined the law firm of Crawford & Baxter, P.S.C., in Carrollton, Ky.
A Carroll County native, he received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law in May 2015. He is a magna cum laude graduate of Northern Kentucky University where he received his bachelors of arts in criminal justice, after completing preliminary college classes at the Jefferson Community and Technical College’s Carrollton Campus.

Friends of Butler held its second annual celebrity golf scramble Saturday, Oct. 3, at General Butler State Resort Park. Former University of Kentucky basketball
players Kenny “Sky” Walker and Jack “Goose” Givens played in the scramble. Proceeds from the event benefited the Backyard Concert Series, operational funds for the historic Butler-Turpin House, the Governors/Commonwealth Garden, the annual history scholarship and other events and community projects.
Bruce Brewer and Jeannie Ables Brewer of Elwood, Ind., became the first couple in 177 years to get married at Lock No. 1 on the Kentucky River. The couple married Saturday, Oct. 10.
Jeannie said she was looking for a unique place to get married and found “Rockin’ Thunder of Madison” online. She contacted Capt. Paul Nicholson and Capt. Janet Hardin, and they planned the rest, she said.
Circuit Court Judge R. Leslie Knight, who serves Carroll, Grant and Owen counties, recently had the opportunity to visit a prison, observe at autopsy, shoot a simulated police firearm and more as part of an education program for the state’s circuit judges. The 2015 Circuit Judges Fall College took place Sept. 27-30, and offered field studies and classroom presentations.
The Division of Judicial Branch Education at the Administrative Office of the courts worked with the Education Committee of the Kentucky Circuit Judges Association to provide the college.
