    The senior class was crowned 2015 Powder Puff champions as they defeated the junior class 28-22 as senior Miranda Groseclose scored the game-winning touchdown as time expired. The juniors shut out the freshman class, 22-0, to advance, and the seniors defeated the sophomores, 20-14.

  • Hotfils to celebrate 50 years of marriage

    Billie and Brenda Wallace Hotfil of Milton, Ky. will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Friday, Oct. 16.

    Rev. Karen Joines married the couple Oct. 16, 1965, at the Whites Run Baptist Church in Carrollton, Ky.

    Mr. Hofil is a retired farmer.

    They have two sons, David and Tony, both of Milton, Ky.

    A celebration will be held at a later date.

  • Carrollton Utilities to flush the hydrants Oct. 14

    Carrollton Utilities will flush fire hydrants on the city of Carrollton water system, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. Hydrant flushing is done each year at this time to remove all sediment in the mains and to make sure all hydrants are working properly. Carrollton Utilities suggest laundry not be washed while crews are flushing the hydrants as some staining could occur.

  • Lions Club hosts magic show

    The Master of Illusion Magic and Variety Show Lions Club Eyeglass Fundraiser will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, with Dinky Gowen Master of Illusion at the Carroll County Middle School. Tickets are  $8 in advance $10 at the door, children five and under are free.
    The Carrollton Lions Club is asking the community for help in their local Eyeglass Fundraiser charity.  All money raised stays in the Carrollton Community and benefits the Eyeglass Program.

  • Smith graduates recruit training

    Mercedes “Sadie” A. Smith graduated from Naval Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Illon Oct. 2, 2015. In attendance at her graduation were her mother, Dana, her sister, Asia both of Independence, Ky. and her grandparents, Doug and Carol Ball of Carrollton, Ky.

    Smith completed conditioning, swimming, marching, drilling and attending Navy classes. She learned the meaning of Honor, Courage and Commitment. She studied simulated emergency shipboard situations meant to save lives.

  • Beach couple celebrates 71st anniversary

    Albert and Alma Beach celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015, at the Ponderosa Banquet Room in Madison, Ind. with their family. Their children are Joyce  (John) Burns of Carrollton, Leona (Bill) Henderson of Worthville, Ky., Gail Beach of Louisville, Ky., Ida Lynn (Chuck) Adkins of Waverly, Ohio, the late Robert W. and Nancy Beach, and the late William A. Beach. They have 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

    As I open almost all packages I receive in the mail, I can’t tell you how many times I thought, “Man, I wish I had thought of bagged air to protect packages.” It is a simple, genius, practical idea that solved a problem effectively.
