    Hello once again, my friends. As I sit typing this article I can only think of days to come, days when the high temperatures are not 100 degrees with high humidity. The dog days of summer are upon us, but that doesn’t mean we stop eating. In fact, with birthdays, parties and summer cookouts we often eat just as much or more during the summer.

  • Buchanan rides in Breyerfest-Gateway to India

    Cassidy Buchanan, 16, of Carroll County was invited to serve as an ambassador for the Arabian Horse breed to ride in three breed demonstrations at the 2017 Breyerfest-Gateway to India. She rode a pure-bred 14-year-old gelding named FA Soccer. 

  • TRDHD, UMC offer free snacks until Aug. 11

    The Three Rivers District Health Department has partnered with the United Methodist Church Food Ministry summer food service in Carroll County to offer free food service to all children through age 18.

    The program provides an enhanced snack for each child, health department grant writer and community development specialist Hayley Franklin said.

    The United Methodist Church Food Ministry in Owen County prepares the snacks, Franklin said, and then brings them to Carroll County Health Department in a mobile food vehicle.

  • Use the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website to find a place to fish

    Two employees of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources recently used the department’s website at www.fw.ky.gov to glean information on catching saugeye.

    They used the 5-foot contour maps on the “Find a place to fish” to study the bottom of Guist Creek Lake in Shelby County and determine a place to fish. They later fished those areas and caught their first saugeye.

  • Cyclists raise money for Ride for Missions

    Fifty-three cyclists will pedal through Carroll County on July 22, as a fundraiser for the work of Rosedale Mennonite Missions. These riders are participating in the 12th annual Ride for Missions. This year’s 360-mile route runs from Shelbyville, Ky., to Kidron, Ohio.

  • Law enforcement officers, agencies honored for seat belt, child restraint enforcement

    The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety recently honored law enforcement officers from 122 agencies across the Commonwealth for their efforts to increase the use of seat belts and child restraints in motor vehicles.

    The Governor’s Occupant Protection Awards ceremony was held at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington. Awards were presented to officers with the most occupant protection citations in each agency and division. There are six divisions, broken down by number of officers within the agency, and a division for Kentucky State Police.
