  • “Shine” finale Nov. 11-12 at CCMS

    Kenzie Nelson, 17, of Carrollton; Peyton Morgan, 17, of Warsaw and Jordan Blanton, 24, of Bedford are among the top 11 contestants that will compete in the finals of “Shine,” an online television show created and produced by Carrollton native Brandon Stewart.

    The finals will be held Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 11-12 at the Carroll County Middle School auditorium. The doors will open at 7 p.m. both nights, but Sunday will feature a red carpet event beginning at 6 p.m. for the contestants, celebrity guests and judges.

  • Ray vows to compete in full Iron Man race again next year

    Louisville Iron Man competitors faced rain, hail and winds of up to 45 miles per hour Oct. 15, while attempting to race 140.6 miles. The competition tests athletes strength and endurance in swimming, cycling and running.

    Heather Ray of Sligo (formerly of Carroll County) was diagnosed with severe mitral valve stenosis and pulmonary hypertension and was competing in her first Iron Man. Check out the Oct. 12, edition of The News-Democrat to read her full story.

  • Motorcycle ride to aid local with breast cancer

    Charity benefit ride for Connie Smith, breast cancer awareness will be held Sunday, Nov. 12, starts and finishes at Point Park in Carrollton. Registration from 10-11:45 a.m. Kickstands up at noon. Cost is $20 per person/couple. Food included for riders, there will be $5 a plate charge for non-riders. Bikes, cars, trucks all are welcome. Scheduled stops are: Keepers, Bungalowe Joes and Scribers. A silent auction and raffles with door prizes will be awarded.   • Scarrollton Skeleton 5K Run/Walk Oct. 28

    SPARK Academy students at Carroll County High School Andrea Searcy and Katie Osborne are hosting a 5K run/walk as a service project. The event, called Scarrollton Skeleton 5K Run/Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 28, at the back entrance of General Butler State Resort Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the race begins at 9 a.m.

    The cost is $25. T-shirts are included, and medals will be awarded to the top three racers in each age group: 14 and under, 15-30, 31-49 and 50 and older.

  • Carroll County Public Library Calendar | Oct. 26, 2017

    The Carroll County Public Library is located at 136 Court Street in Carrollton. Every day after school, the community room is open to tweens and teens to relax, visit with friends and enjoy activities, snacks, games, movies, Netflix, etc. Virtual Reality games are popular and they will have new ones to try out, Monday through Friday from 3:30 – 5 p.m.
