  • Spend smarter this season

Once the Thanksgiving traditions are complete and the family members have recapped all they’re thankful for, many Kentuckians will turn to sale fliers to plan their Black Friday or Cyber Monday attacks on Christmas shopping.

The Department of Financial Institutions reminds consumers to spend wisely this holiday season by shopping smarter, saving money and avoiding fraud.

  • Children seek time, interest on Christmas wish lists

We recently went through the interests of the children that are still on the waiting list of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Carroll County. Lo and behold, these children looking for a new friend are not asking for the world. In fact, most of us are exactly who they need in doses we can deliver.

For example, a 9-year-old girl writes that she hates to watch TV, but loves to go to Wal-Mart. An 8-year-old boy is very creative, enjoying music, acting and travel. A 10-year-old girl wants to go to Carroll County school events and spend time outside.

  • Give spaghetti squash a try in next pasta dish

Cold. That’s the only word I can think of to start this. OK, it’s probably not the only word, but it’s certainly the first one that comes to mind. That being said, we have to eat even when it’s cold and thus I’m moving right along to more pertinent things.

Each month I talk about recipes and ways to design them. It’s always been that way with me. I’m happy to share the ideas on how I develop new recipes.

I subscribe to the, “teach a person to fish” methodology.
