    Hello once again, my friends. Summer is finally upon us in full force. It’s hot, the humidity is high and, frankly, I’ve run out of cooking ideas. Of course I’m kidding, it is hot and humid, but I never run out of ideas for cooking. I had the idea for this article, however, to change gears a bit, and go in a different direction if you will.

  • Stepworks to open new treatment facilities for addiction

    Stepworks Recovery Centers is preparing to open a 32-bed, full service residential treatment facility during the first week of August in Elizabethtown, Ky. The company will open an additional 24-bed treatment center in Bowling Green later this year, bringing a total of 56 new treatment beds to the state of Kentucky.

    Both of the new treatment facilities will offer detoxification as part of a 30-day residential program for women and men. The program focuses on evidence-based addiction education, individual and group therapy and family therapy services.

    NEW EVENTS/PROGRAMMING

    July 28: Summer Reading Program finale will be a Field Day at Point Park, begins at 5:30 p.m., dinner served, prizes and reading bags will be given.

    July 29: Camp Shakespeare, “Romeo and Juliet,” a performance will be held at 3 p.m. for family and friends of the Shakespeare campers

    July 30: Retro Track and Field Video Game Day, compete in your favorite track and field events while staying cool with these retro video games. All ages welcome, 2 p.m.

  • Carroll participates in state Sheriffs’ Ranch

    The Kentucky Sheriffs’ Boys & Girls Ranch opened to campers for its 41st season June 12, and runs through June and July, serving boys and girls on alternate weeks.

    The ranch is a non-profit organization, serving Kentucky’s youth through a camping program designed to build self-esteem, while teaching them respect for themselves, others and law enforcement professionals. Camp is free to campers, thanks to the dedication and support of the sheriffs, members and contributors. 

  • Eatin’ and Movin’

    Carroll County Extension hosted “Eatin’ and Movin’ at the Carroll County Public Library July 14. The children learned about nutrition and danced to burn off some calories. The program was a part of the library’s Summer Reading Program.
