  • Out-of-service flags burned during Legion ceremony

The officers and members of American Legion Post 41 held a ceremony June 19, to honorably retire those American flags that are no longer serviceable. Burning has been the approved method of disposing of such flags for a long time.

After a brief ceremony officiated by Commander Raymond Meadows to retire about 1,000 flags that have flown proudly throughout the community or have been placed on the graves of fallen comrades, they were destroyed by burning.
