  • Lasagna recipe takes just 30 minutes to prepare

    Do you have a lot of recipes that you no longer use because you feel they take too long to prepare or contain too many ingredients? 

    I actually have felt the same about some of my recipes. Stop and think about when you last used that recipe and what was going on at the time. For example; when I was in 4-H, I had to make an angel food cake. At the time, we met every week and most often had to make the item we were required to exhibit that year.

  • Lion's Club 5K Run/Walk

    Carrollton Lions Club holds its annual 5K Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 29 at the back of General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton.

    The course for the event will take participants down Lock Road and back to the rear park entrance for a total of 3.1 miles.

    Race Day registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the shelter near the back entrance.      

    There are several divisions for the 5k Run and Walk:  14-under, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, 75-older.

  • Fire hydrant flushing to be conducted in city of Carrollton Thursday, Oct. 13

    Carrollton Utilities will flush fire hydrants on the City of Carrollton water system, Thursday, Oct. 13. Flushing will begin at 8 a.m. and be completed by 5 p.m.

    Flushing of the hydrants is done each year at this time to remove all sediment in the mains and to make sure all hydrants are working properly. Carrollton Utilities suggest that laundry should not be washed while crews are flushing the hydrants as some staining of clothes could occur.

  • Lewis returns home after year-long Guard deployment in Iraq

    SFC William “Bill” Lewis, a resident of Carroll County and a member of the Ohio National Guard returned from active deployment to Iraq Sept 9, 2011. He was called to duty on Sept. 20, 2010.

    SFC Lewis, Task Force 1-174th, Air Defense (C-RAM), is originally from Columbus, Ohio and moved to Carrollton in 2008. He is married to Brittany Tiller Lewis of Carrollton. While on deployment their first child was born May 4, 2011. He was able to take 15 days leave when the baby was born and arrived at the hospital just hours before the birth.

  • Bust A Ride Poker Run set for Oct. 8

    Bust A Ride Poker Run 2011 will start with sign-ups at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Grillin-Station in Prestonville.

    Riders will leave at noon and will finish at the Sunset Grill in Warsaw. Cost is $15 for singles and $20 for couples. Entertainment will include a live band and 50/50 drawing, ($1 per ticket or six tickets for $5). $5 for extra poker hand, 50 percent will be paid for the best poker hand.   • Breakfast for dinner is a popular family favorite

    My friend, Sandy, told me when her grandson came over she prepared breakfast for dinner.

    His reaction was quite surprising to her. He said it sounds awful to have breakfast for dinner, because breakfast is for breakfast.  Another friend called me a few days ago and during our conversation she asked what I was fixing for dinner.  “We’re having breakfast for dinner,” I said.  She told me her kids loved that for dinner when they were growing up.
