Carroll County High School will host a tennis tournament Oct. 24-26, at the county park. Cost is $10 per person for singles and $5 per person for doubles. There will be mixed doubles play if enough people sign up. There will be three age categories: middle school, high school and adult.

Isaiah’s 1/2-A-Heart 5K Run/Walk will be held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, beginning and ending at Sparta City Park on Hwy. 35, Sparta, Ky. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. and costs $25. Make checks payable to God’s Special Little Hearts, Inc. All proceeds will benefit Isaiah Columbia, a nine-year-old Owen County boy who was born with a severe congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Caby M. Froman’s September meeting was hosted at the home of Ellen van Nagell Walnut Hills in Goshen, Ky.
The luncheon and meeting was set outdoors in a majestic setting of late summer foliage and flowers. The lunch consisted of fresh corn salad garnished with blueberries and fresh vegetables, cottage cheese, grilled chicken legs and hot rolls.
The religious study was the continuation of the “People’s Bible” chapters 5 and 6, given by Sally Diuguid.
General Butler State Resort Park will host a Pickleball Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 4 at the tennis courts next to the lodge. Tom and Linda Irwin from Lawrenceburg, Ind., will be the instructors. The program is designed for adults. Cost is $3 per person.
Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in communities in the Southwest and Southern states. The sport puts less stress on the body than activities such as tennis or racketball.
