In honor of Black History Month this February, and in the spirit of Dr. Charles Drew, an African-American surgeon who was the first medical director of the American Red Cross and a modern blood-banking pioneer, eligible donors as diverse as the patients who need their blood donations are encouraged to give blood to ensure a sufficient blood supply.
Kroger Relay for life is currently holding their annual Cutie Pie contest. Bring in your birth to 3- year-old cutie’s favorite photo with name, age and parents’ phone number.
Shoppers can vote on their favorite cutie by depositing money in cups corresponding with the number of the cutie. Winners will be announced Feb. 15. Trophies will be awarded to the first place girl and the first place boy who receives the most money.
The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met on Jan. 16, at Two Rivers Restaurant with 11 members in attendance. The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary Velma Hunt and approved as read. The treasurer’s report showed the breakdown of the monies available in the scholarship fund and the expenditures from the remaining amount. A total of 34 members have paid their dues, and the treasurer hopes that those who usually pay and have not will do so soon. Every dollar that is collected helps the Association.
Hello once again, my friends. We made it through the holiday season, and now, we are looking forward to spring. The thoughts of warm weather and green grass are dancing in our heads.
