The whole reason I started cooking was my mother. She was a self-taught, brilliant cook who could effortlessly whip up any recipe with just a glance.
After years of eating and enjoying her food, I decided that I would give up these silly dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and pursue a career in the hospitality industry.
I started out washing dishes at The Tasteful Chef in Ghent when I was 14 as a part-time job after school. I thought it was ironic that my first job cooking didn’t involve any actual cooking, but I figured everyone had to start somewhere.
Lance Corporal Seth E. Hill, a Carrollton native, has received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for professional achievement in the superior performance while serving as a specialized search dog handler, Military Working Dog Platoon, I Marine Headquarters Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force Forward in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Hill served in the unit from Dec. 1, 2011, to June 20.
