  • Froman Club meets at Keeneland track

    The Caby M. Froman Club held its October meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Lexington Room of Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Ky. 

    Harriet Cason was hostess for the event, during which 10 members and two guests enjoyed a luncheon, a beautiful day and racing. 

    The next club meeting is Friday, Nov. 2, in the Burley Room at the lodge at General Butler State Resort Park. Sally Diuguid will serve as hostess.

  • Red Cross blood drive Nov. 7 at CCHS

    During November, a time to give thanks and celebrate Veterans Day, the American Red Cross invites eligible donors to give blood and honor those who have served our country in the U.S. armed forces.

    Carroll County residents are encouraged to donate blood from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Carroll County High School.

    All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

  • Family welcomes son | Oct. 31, 2012

    PFC Cody Maiden and Ashley Dodson announce the birth of their son, Haylon West Maiden, born Thursday, July 5, 2012, at St. Elizabeth South Hospital. Haylon weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 20¼ inches long.

    He was welcomed home by his sister Stefany and his brother Ian, his Uncle Zack Maiden and Aunt Britnee Maiden.

    Haylon’s dad, Cody, left Oct. 9, to train with the National Guard in Fort Jackson, S.C. He’ll be home in December for two weeks and then on to Fort Sill, Okla., for more training.

  • Retired teachers discuss benefits, insurance plans provided by KRTS

    The Carroll County Retired Teachers Association met  Oct. 26 for lunch at Two Rivers Restaurant at General Butler State Resort Park lodge. Eight members were present.

    During the meeting held after lunch, Secretary Velma Hunt read the minutes and president/treasurer Cassandra McBurney gave the treasurer’s report. She reported that the local group has a total of 29 members.

    Wednesday, Nov. 7: Nutrition with Grace, 10:30 a.m.

  • Hispanic arts reception moved to Nov. 9

    There has been a change in dates for the artist reception for the Hispanic Arts and Crafts event at the Carroll County Public Library. The date has been changed to 6 p.m. Nov. 9. to include our Friday Night Music Series with Vanessa Birchfield and bass guitarist, Ritchie Chubb.

  • Garden visit yields teas, recipes

    I’m back! I know. It’s a surprise to me as well, but here I am doing what I love to do, writing this column. 

    The sale of our house fell through and we were disappointed; however life does go on and there are reasons for everything. In this process, I have redecorated our house with all of our own things and that is very good.

    In September, we visited the new home of my high school friends in Virginia, then drove further south to Charleston, S.C., where we met my cousin and his wife from California. 

  • TOPS program to discuss ‘Living Well’

    Sue Livers, foundation director at King’s Daughters’ Hospital, will speak at the Tops Ky. No. 529 meeting at the Senior Citizens building, on Sixth Street in Carrollton, at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5.

    Livers will be speaking on the difference of living and living well. Tops is a non-profit support group for weight loss. All are welcome.
