How can a pint size pup affect the hearts of so many people? Emmy Lou has brought both tears and laughter to many among the animal lovers on Facebook. Carroll County Animal Support’s Facebook page is full of Emmy’s progress and antics.

I recently made chicken and dumplings for dinner — a nice Sunday one. These kind of meals usually remind me of my grandmother, but on this day I couldn’t help but think of my own mother and the story she once told.

My dad always teased Mother about the fact that when he married her, she didn’t know how to boil water. That wasn’t exactly true, though.  Mother came from a very poor family and had to learn to do many things while growing up, cooking included. Since my grandmother was such a good cook, I am sure my mother learned well from her.

The Carroll County Agriculture Development Fund Inc. will be taking applications for Phase 1 Cost Share money starting on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 8 a.m. at the Carroll County Extension Office, 500 Floyd Drive, Carrollton.

These applications will be available until Friday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m. Applications will also be sent through the mail to farmers that are listed on the Extension agriculture database.

The sign-up has a 25 percent-75 percent match, with a limit of $3,500.
