  • Blood donors needed for summer demand

     While the Independence Day holiday will surely ignite many spectacular fireworks extravaganzas, the American Red Cross is counting on donors to spark the nation’s blood supply. The Red Cross reminds eligible donors that the need for blood is constant, especially during holiday timeframes – like Independence Day – when eligible donors have even less time in their busy schedules to give. 

    Blood donation opportunities in Carroll County are:

    • July 3, 1 -5 p.m., Walmart, 200 Floyd Drive, Carrollton.

  • Carroll County Clerk receives $1,575 grant to preserve local records through scanning

    Carroll County Clerk Alice Marsh has received a $1,575 grant from the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) to preserve and manage local government records. KDLA is an agency of the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet.

    Sixty-six grants have been awarded for a total of $1,321,474 from fiscal year 2012 Local Records Grant Program funds. During the program’s 26-year history, a total of more than $19 million has been distributed across Kentucky and included grants to all 120 counties.

  • Family welcomes baby daughter

    Shane and Rita Power of Owenton would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Makenzie Brooke Power, born Monday, March 26, 2012, at 11:43 p.m. at Frankfort Regional Hospital in Frankfort, Ky. She weighed 5 pounds 11 ounces and was 18.5 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Melba Taylor of Carrollton, and John and Charlotte Carter of Trimble County.

    Paternal grandparents are Scott and Joan Power of Owenton.

    Great-grandparents are Katherine Carter of Carrollton and Eula “Poppy” Perkins of Owenton.

  • Non-calorie sweetner makes for a tasty dessert

    What’s for dessert? This is the question I always get whenever I cook a meal. 

    I must admit I like dessert too — maybe too much — after all, that’s one of the very first things I ever learned to cook at age nine. So, it just might be inevitable that people will ask me that very important question.

  • Learn business fundamentals at upcoming session at library

     If you are thinking about or planning to start your own business, mark your calendar for 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 26.

    The Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission is sponsoring a pre-business orientation for that time and date at Carroll County Public Library, 136 Court St., Carrollton. The session will provide information to potential entrepreneurs about an upcoming course offered through the Rekindle Micro-Enterprise Program, which will meet for six consecutive Tuesdays at the library starting July 10.
