  • Make plans now to save leftovers for future meals to save money

    Hello once again my friends. I would love to say wow right now. Wow in that we are already at the holiday season. It seems like yesterday that I was writing about summer foods and grilling and light salads. Now we are talking turkey and ham and all the great holiday food traditions. Unfortunately, one of the traditions that seems to come with the holiday is breaking the food budget.

  • Giving to others

    Volunteers loaded up large boxes filled with individual shoeboxes that will be given to children around the world through the Samaritan’s Purse program. Organizer Stacie Darnold said Carroll County donated items and money for 619 shoeboxes. She thanked First Baptist Church for storing the items and McNeal’s Hardward for delivering the boxes to the collection center in Walton.

  • Operation Christmas Shoebox

    Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Collection began this week. Please stop by First Baptist Church in Carrollton if you would like to help fill a box and provide a small $7 fee to be shipped to a child.

    Boxes may be picked up at the church during business hours or in the evening during the following collection times: Nov. 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m.;

    Nov. 18, 5:30-7:30 p.m.; Nov. 19, 4-6 p.m.; and Nov. 20, 1-5 p.m.

  • Chili fundraiser

    Worthville Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a chili dinner from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 19, at the firehouse, 446 Hwy. 467 in Worthville. The cost is $5 per person. The fire department also will be accepting donations of new hats, gloves, scarfs, etc., for needy children in the area.

  • Tour of homes highlights historic residences

    Step inside some of the magnificent homes in Carrollton during the first Christmas Tour of Homes Dec. 3-4.

    The Masterson House, Butler Turpin House and nine other private homes will be on this year’s tour.

    Carrollton/Carroll County Tourism is sponsoring the tour and the $10 tickets are only available at the Tourism office, located at 515 Highland Ave.

    Tour dates are from 1-6 p.m. on both dates. Guests will be able to use their tickets on Saturday or Sunday in any order, but can only visit each site once. Tickets are non-refundable.

  • Honoring Veterans
  • Scouts return with volunteers to collect food Saturday

    Help feed the hungry of our community. Area Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Brownies and community volunteers return to the streets of Carrollton at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, to collect donated non-perishable food items in the second weekend of the annual Scouting for Food project.

    The Splendid Sampler, sampler blocks, are a great way to learn new quilting skills one block at a time. Work at your own pace. New block patterns will be available each week. Tutorials for new techniques will be held during PHd afternoons. Ask Patricia for more details at (502) 732-7020.
