    Mary Ann Gentry Art Show 2017, “Naturally Mary Ann” open to the public, is accepting two items that have never been displayed in previous shows in categories: drawings, paintings, sculpture and photography until Wednesday April 19. The MAG show will be exhibiting a special selection of paintings by Mary Ann Gentry recently donated by her family at the reception Friday, April 28, from 6-7:30 p.m. For more information please call: (502) 732-7020.

  • Port William Society learns about DNA, discusses fundraising projects

    The Port William Historical Society met on March 28, at the Masterson House, with 17 people in attendance.

    President Deborah Garrett called the meeting to order and introduced guest speaker Phyllis McLaughlin with “Twisted Roots” to speak about DNA for genealogy. With the use of a slideshow, McLaughlin spoke to the areas of DNA testing through ancestry.

    Secretary Cassandra McBurney read the minutes of the Feb. 21, workshop and they were approved as read. Treasurer Sam Burgess gave the treasurer’s report and it was approved.

  • NorthKey receives donation

    NorthKey Community Care in Carrollton received a check of more than $3,500 from the former Save Camp Kysoc committee. The money will be used to purchase activity supplies and equipment.

    Former Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson said Save Camp Kysoc was originally formed to prevent the state from declaring Camp Kysoc as surplus property. However, once the county bought the property in September 2016, the funding was no longer needed.

  • Froman Club shares history of Merton; Burgess shares experience living in Cuba

    Caby M. Froman’s March meeting was held on March 3, 2017, at General Butler State Resort Park. President Sandra Thomas presided over the meeting and opened by welcoming all the members with the reading of the “Story of St. Patrick.” The Lord’s Prayer was recited by all.

  • Mexican dishes are easier to prepare and delicious

    Hello once again my friends. As I write this article I am hoping everyone is recovering from the recent storms and damage suffered from them. This warm spring weather brings the green back, but also the stormy weather. After being out and about and hearing the chatter on social media, I saw that one of the local Mexican restaurants suffered some damage and has yet to reopen. Some of my most requested recipes are Mexican foods so I thought this might be a good time to write an article about preparing some of your favorite Mexican foods at home.
