I remember one of the very first columns I wrote for this paper was on herbs.
At that time, I was just starting to learn how to grow them and use them in cooking. Now they have become such a part of my life that I use them in just about everything I prepare, in one form or another.
Out on my deck, I have a potted rosemary plant that actually survived the winter in that pot and on that deck. Hurrah for me, because I have never been able to keep them alive in my herb garden.
The American Cancer Society Carroll County Relay For Life will be held 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. June 16-17 at the Carroll County Fairgrounds.
Teams of people in our community will take turns walking or running around the track in this non-competitive event. Relay teams consist of individuals representing corporations, churches, clubs, organizations and families.
During Relay For Life, team members enjoy games, food, music and camaraderie while camping out on the surrounding grounds.
The disease of addiction, whether it be to alcohol or prescription or illegal drugs, brings suffering not just to the addict, but to his or her family, as well. Family members often are left to pick up the pieces and clean up the messes and adjust their own lives to accommodate the addict, according to Matt Lipe, cooridinator of Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County.
Family members can feel as though they are all alone in this, Lipe said. There are classes and groups for the addict to receive help but often there is nowhere for family members to turn.
