Carol West and her husband, Keith, of Sanders, Ky. were camping at General Butler State Resort Park May 3, when Keith noticed a pair of Baltimore Orioles. The birds had found some discarded fishing line and were building their nest about 35 feet up in a tree.
When Keith next looked up he saw the female bird entwined in the fishing line and hanging upside down. The male bird was distraught and flew up to her several times trying to help. At times the bird could manage to get back up on a limb but would fall again.
Carrollton’s American Legion Post No. 41 commander Raymond Meadows recently acquired memorabilia from the daughter of World War I veteran Knoble Garriott. Included in the memorabilia was the original charter of Bedford’s Lorraine Post No. 75 of the American Legion.
The post was chartered Jan. 27, 1920, with 18 men listed on the charter.
Meadows said he visited with Trimble County Judge-Executive Jerry Powell and Sheriff Tim Coons and neither knew anything about the Bedford American Legion Post.
