• Woman’s club hears from new county 4-H agent

    Carrollton Woman’s Club met May 7 at Pat’s Place on Seminary Street in Carrollton. Karen Claiborne was hostess for the evening.

    The education program was given by Joyce Doyle, who has served as Carroll County 4-H Extension agent since fall of 2012.

    Doyle  told the members that she is excited to be in Carroll County. She has organized students in the fifth grade at Cartmell Elementary School to give either speeches or demonstrations.

    Thirteen of those students competed in the district and five are now going to state.

  • Retired teachers plan donation to food pantry

    Carroll County Retired Teachers’ Association was invited to have lunch and hold its meeting at Fairview Place on May 17. There were 11 members present.

    Chet Mitchell and his staff served a delicious lunch. Mitchell gave the group a very brief talk about the facility. He also answered several questions from members.

  • Warm weather brings a chance to use the grill

    Well my friends, we can now say summer is officially here. Ok, maybe it’s not officially here according to the calendar; however it is here officially according to my standard definition of summer. Has it been hot enough for me to sweat and to contemplate it being too hot to fish? The answer to both of those is yes, so therefore summer is upon us.
