  • Softball tournament set for county park April 7

    Support Second Base Susan G. Komen Softball Tournament will be held Saturday, April 7 beginning at 9 a.m. at Carroll County Park, field No. 5. Cost is $100 fee per team, walk on players $10, home run derby $10. For more information call (502) 480-6310.

  • Safe digging month stresses that calling 811 is the law

    National Safe Digging Month is designated to remind everyone that the land around them is made up of a complex underground infrastructure of pipelines.

    Striking an underground utility line while digging can cause harm to you or those around you, disrupt service to an entire neighborhood and potentially result in fines and repair costs, according to Tim Pearson, safety officer for Carrollton Utilities.

    Pearson said a call must be placed to 811 before every digging project — from simple landscaping projects to professional excavating.

    The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Carroll County will be hosting a Daddy, Daughter Dance 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at the National Guard Armory on Hwy. 227. 

    The dance is for fathers and daughters of all ages, with semi-formal or Sunday attire as part of the theme. 

    Admission is $15 per couple and $5 for each individual.

  • Here’s one dreamy dessert inspired by a dream

    Have you ever had an idea that came to you while you were sleeping? You may not have been trying to think of an idea for something, it just came to you almost as a surprise.

    That’s what happened to me last week.  Of course, I knew I had my column to write, but I had already decided what I would write about, so why did something come to me in the middle of the night while I was sleeping so soundly? I guess my brain thought it was important.

  • Lions Club to hold poker run June 2 in memory of Mike Gividen

    A poker run in memory of Mike Gividen will be held Saturday, June 2 (rain date June 9). The event starts and ends at Herb Kinman Chevrolet in Carrollton. Starting time is noon. Cost is $20 a hand, with $5 for extra hand. Prize for the winning hand is $100. There also will be a split the pot drawing. Registration will be held from 10:45 -11:45 a.m. that morning.
    Cars are welcome to participate. All proceeds will benefit the Carrollton Lion’s Club, for more information call Jamie Kinman (502) 682-1000. Bring old glasses to recycle.
