  • Louden, Leap to wed April 9

    Darius and Sandy Louden of Campbellsburg, Ky. announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter, Carmen F. Louden to Travis A. Leap, son of Donna Ritch of Lakeland, Fla. and Bill and Rose Leap of Vevay, Ind.

    The bride-elect is a 2006 Kentucky Community and Technical College System graduate and is employed as waitress and model.

    The groom-to-be is a 1997 Vincennes University graduate and is employed as a contractor.

  • Brocious, Moore welcome daughter

    Jana Lynn Brocious and Rob Moore would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Lily Harper Brocious-Moore born, Jan. 6, 2011, at Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Proud uncle Kory B. Brocious welcomed Lilly home. Maternal grandmother is Kathleen Brocious of Campbellsburg, Ky. Paternal grandparents are Ron and Dianne Moore of Los Angeles, Calif.

  • Derby brunch in Florida was a hit with guests

    I am now spending a quiet Sunday afternoon, lounging at the club pool after a wonderful morning of serving a Kentucky Derby Brunch in Florida.

    At least, it was our version of a Kentucky brunch. Everyone was so excited to attend and we were so glad to be able to give them a little of the wonderful Kentucky hospitality.  Some of those attending have never been to Kentucky, but I think they may just make it our way.

  • Gary Hewitt graduates from Naval training

    Gary Hewitt graduated from Great Lakes Naval Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. on March 11, 2011. He will be stationed in Groton, Conn. for the next 18 weeks, where he will train on submarines. 

    Hewitt is the son of Jennifer Whisman of Ghent, Ky. and grandson of Donna Hewitt also of Ghent, and Danny and Wanda Hewitt of Worthville, Ky.

  • Free, reduced-price health testing offered during fair at C’ton armory

    The third annual Carroll County Health and Safety Fair is 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 26 at the Kentucky National Guard Armory on State Hwy. 227 in Carrollton. 

    The free event is sponsored by the Carroll County Community Development Corporation’s Health and Safety Partnership, in collaboration with Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Three Rivers District Health Department and Green Valley Care Center.

    The event provides family-friendly information to residents in Carroll and surrounding counties about how to be healthy and stay safe.

  • Easy casserole leaves plenty of time for gardening

    Now that it is spring, I have started thinking about gardening. It has been such a long time since we last put in a garden, and I cannot wait to get one going where we live now. 

    The ground was plowed a few days ago, so I know we are going to do it. We are planning ways to deter the deer, and I have also been told I must also try to repel the raccoons, possums, squirrels and whatever other critters there may be out there.
