The Green Valley Crusaders’ will host a bake sale and lunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, June 14 at Green Valley Nursing Home, 1206 11th Street. The lunch will consist of hot dog or coney, chips and drink for $5. The Green Valley team’s proceeds benefit Carroll County Relay for Life.
Thirty-two contestants representing local scholarship pageants from across the state will be vying for the title of Miss Kentucky 2013 and this year one of the semi-finalists will be determined by the public, rather than the panel of judges.
Relay for Life Team Robbins held “Pageant Prep” Saturday, May 18, at the Carroll County Middle School. The day was dedicated to giving all girls the royal princess treatment. The girls received tips on make up and hair; self-confidence and self-esteem; walking, posing and poise tips; wardrobe tips; and etiquette lessons. They participated in mock interviews with public speaking advice. The girls also got their picture taken with pageant queens from across the state. All money raised benefited the Carroll County Relay for Life.

Steve Hunt has been named Carroll County Memorial Hospital’s April employee of the month. Hunt has been with the hospital for 36 years in the maintenance department. In honoring him, he is credited for being “a hard worker and always pleasant to everyone he comes in contact with.”
The second Poker Run in memory of Mike Gividen will be held Saturday, June 1 (rain date June 8) at noon starting and ending at Kinman’s Chevrolet in Carrollton with meal following being provided. Cost is $20 per poker hand, $5 extra hand. Prize for the winning poker hand is $100, and split the pot will be offered. Registration will be 10:45-11:45 a.m. Cars are welcome to participate.
