David M. Perry and Andria Y. Kyle of Carrollton would like to announce the birth of their daughter, Bristol Lynn Perry, born Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky. She weighed 6 pounds and was 19.5 inches long.
Her big sister, Mackenzie Perry, age seven, helped welcome her home.
Paternal grandparents are Eddie and Sheila Perry of Carrollton.
Maternal grandparents are Susan M. Kyle of Milton, Ky. and the late David L. Kyle.
Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County hosted a roundtable discussion with Rep. Geoff Davis Nov. 10. During that discussion, which lasted for 90 minutes, issues facing the Champions coalition and community on the local level were discussed, as well as some of the initiatives coming out of his Washington D.C. office. During the discussion, Rep. Davis stressed to the community that he has never seen an initiative for D.C. that worked if it wasn’t owned on the local level.
The Nov. 1 meeting of the Carrollton Woman’s Club was held at Pat’s Place on Seminary Street.
The program was provided by Grace Angotti, Home Life Chairman.
Angotti brought Christin Herbst, the new agricultural/4H Extension agent who spoke to them about the importance of family and how important her family had been to her. Both her father and grandfather had been Extension agents in Adair County.
As I write this column, it is Veteran’s Day. Since this is a food column, it causes me to stop and reflect on all the service men who have sacrificed for our country, and the many holidays they have spent away from their families. As we gather with our families this Thanksgiving, let us not forget those who are not able to be with us and to share the wonderful meals we are so blessed to eat.
Carroll County Chamber of Commerce is seeking entries for the Dec. 3 Carrollton Christmas parade, part of A Christmas Carroll.
Businesses, churches and local organizations are encouraged to take part in the event. It is free to enter.
Decorate with a Christmas theme. Business prizes include advertising totalling $300 from WKID-FM, $200 from The News-Democrat and $150 from WIKI-FM. Prizes are $100 and a trophy in church and youth divisions.

Carroll County resident Becky Lee Meadows, Ph.D. signed a book publishing contract with Cambria Press this month. The publishing company has agreed to publish her book, “The Consciousness of Damnation: A Hermeneutical Phenomenology of the Fall of the Self in Matthew Lewis’s The Monk.”
