As I may have mentioned in a previous column, I am trying to master the technique of preparing recipes based on exactly what I have in my pantry and refrigerator. It isn’t easy, however, it is becoming a lot of fun for me.
When I used to work as a nurse, it was not unusual for a doctor to go shopping in our sample supply cabinet. We used to laugh a lot about that because the doctor would go through each shelf and place items in a little brown paper bag. It was fun to watch because we knew that he/she was doing everything to help cut costs for the patient.

The public is invited to come view artwork created for the juried art show by students from schools in Carroll, Grant, Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties during the library’s regular business hours, 9:30 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Air Force Airman Marcus S. Stewart graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Trisha Boaz would like to announce the birth of her daughter, Madison Marie Patterson, born Jan. 10, 2011, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces and was 20 inches long.

The other day I started cleaning out my jewelry box, a much dreaded job I must confess. I’ve mentioned to many of my friends that it is something I really must do, so I finally started into it. “Started” is the operative word because I didn’t finish it, although it does look much better. It is not quite the tangled mess it once was, thank heavens.
During the month of January through Feb. 14, area residents are invited to bring your child’s photo, ages from birth to three years, to Kroger in Carrollton for the annual Cutie Pie Contest.
Make sure the child’s name, parents’ names and phone number are listed. First, second and third place trophies will be awarded to both girls and boys.
Kroger shoppers can vote on their favorite cutie pie by dropping money into corresponding cups.
