  • Lonnie serves a treasure found in old jewelry box

    The other day I started cleaning out my jewelry box, a much dreaded job I must confess. I’ve mentioned to many of my friends that it is something I really must do, so I finally started into it. “Started” is the operative word because I didn’t finish it, although it does look much better. It is not quite the tangled mess it once was, thank heavens.

  • Cutie Pie event for Relay at Kroger through Feb. 14

    During the month of January through Feb. 14, area residents are invited to bring your child’s photo, ages from birth to three years, to Kroger in Carrollton for the annual Cutie Pie Contest.
    Make sure the child’s name, parents’ names and phone number are listed. First, second and third place trophies will be awarded to both girls and boys.
    Kroger shoppers can vote on their favorite cutie pie by dropping money into corresponding cups.

  • Silent auction Feb. 12 at mall

    Operation Prom Dress will be at Butler Outlet Mall Feb. 12, 10 a.m. to noon for its  “Sweetheart’s Silent Auction” where people can bid on gift baskets for their loved ones. Basket donations have come from local businesses such as Cornerstone Floral and Gifts and Muffett’s Custom Auto Detailing. All proceeds benefit Operation Prom Dress’ goal to send all deserving, underprivileged high school girls to prom for free. This year’s Prom Shop will be held March 5 at the Relevant Church in Carrollton.

  • Suters celebrate 50 years

    Mr. and Mrs. Louis G. Suter of Campbellsburg are celebrating 50 years of marriage. The couple wed in 1961 and are life-long residents of Campbellsburg. Louis is the son of the late Webb and Sylvia Suter of Campbellsburg. Barbara New Suter is the daughter of Pauline Hudgins of Carrollton.

  • Lonnie offers vegetable casserole with chicken

    During the winter, it is often hard to come up with really good fresh vegetable meals. Tomatoes are never as good as the summer, however, I will buy the tomatoes on the stems because they do taste a lot better to me. I much prefer to use frozen vegetables because they also seem more like fresh vegetables, and frankly, the frozen vegetables do retain more of their nutrients. There are always good ways to cook the frozen vegetables and you don’t have to cook them to death, you can still have them al dente.

  • Brenda Wood joins United Citizens staff

    Brenda Wood has joined the United Citizens Bank & Trust Co. staff in Carrollton. 

    Wood was previously with US Bank in Louisville, but had her banking start in Carrollton.  She has been in banking for five years and has climbed the ladder. She began as a teller, became a teller supervisor, moved on to lending, and in her last banking position had become assistant manager.

  • Rotarians help with clean water project

    The Carrollton Rotary Club is participating in a world-wide initiative sponsored by the Rotary  International  Foundation to assist in providing clean water to coffee-producing countries.  “Clean Water for Coffee”  successfully  funded water projects in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Bolivia, Haiti, and Honduras in 2009-10 with $50,000 received from Green Mountain Coffee sales.  Local club members are selling Green Mountain Coffee in four blends, House,  Sumatran Reserve, Rainforest Nut, and House Decaf for $10 per bag.
