  • Owens celebrate 60 years

    Adrian and Norma Owen of Ghent, Ky. will celebrate their 60th anniversary on Dec. 29, 2011. Children include the late Sharon Clifton, the late Debra Lane Owen, Anita and John Wood of Milton, Steve and Tina Owen of Ghent, Patty and Johnny Vannarsdall of Carrollton, Sandra McDole of Ghent and Deana Owen of Bedford. The have eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. They are both graduates of Carroll County High School. They will celebrate at home with family.

  • Hot Broccoli Dip perfect for New Year’s Eve party

    I wish you a Happy New Year, and, above all, please stay safe. We spent a wonderful holiday with our four grandchildren from Georgia. What a blast, and thankfully, I had conserved some of my energy before we saw them.  Oh my! But I would do everything all over again in a heartbeat, even being so tired because it was such a joy to be with them.  Special moments!

    The Rev. James and Rita Kelley would like to announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter, Raeanna Jo Kelley of Worthville, Ky. to the Rev. Jesse Ray Vandegrift of Sheridan, Ind. son of Carl and Mary Jane Vandegrift of Fairmont, West Virginia.

    The bride-to-be is a 2009 graduate of Carroll County High School and is currently working on her degree in Associate Religion at Union Bible College, in Westfield, Ind. where she is scheduled to graduate in May 2012.

  • Nobles welcomes baby son Oct. 25

    William and Erica Noble of Carrollton, would like to announce the birth of their son, Weston Cash Noble.

    Weston was born Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky.

    He weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces and was 21 1/2 inches long.

    Maternal grandparents are Troy Stethen of Carrollton and the late Sabrena Stethen. Maternal great-grandparents are Clyde Stethen of Carrollton, Carol Tuttle of Henry County and James Tuttle of Sanders.

    Paternal grandparents are Wanda Noble of Carrollton and the late Warren Noble.

  • Detention center busy during holiday season

    The holidays are a busy time for the Carroll County Detention Center and Jailer Mike Humphrey.

    Humphrey and the detention center organize three holiday events for the Carroll County community.

     On Saturday, Dec. 17 at the National Guard Armory, the center hosts a Christmas dinner for the senior citizens in Carroll County. Food is donated from the Carroll County Fiscal Court, local churches and organizations and prepared by the jail. Volunteers enjoy helping serve the dinner.

  • Herbed pork loin cooks up tender, tasty for meal

    The Ghent Woman’s Club held its Christmas meeting at New Horizons on Dec. 1.  Chet Mitchell, the executive director, went out of his way to set up the most beautiful table for our Christmas memories program.  He made us feel so very special by decorating  it for us. Thank you Chet. If you haven’t visited New Horizon’s since the new ownership, you just might want to take a look.

  • Trooper honored for enforcement

    The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety and the Kentucky State Police issued awards at a ceremony held Dec. 8, 2011 to law enforcement officers across the state for their individual contributions to the Commonwealth’s mission of aggressive traffic enforcement.
