  • Medicare clinic offered at library Oct. 25

    The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services encourage Medicare beneficiaries to compare their Medicare coverage options each year. It is important to review options for 2012 since significant changes have been made to many of the Medicare prescription drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans. Open enrollment runs from Oct. 15-Dec. 7. Changes to Medicare Advantage plans and/or drug plans must be done during this time frame.

  • Club learns about new county library services

    The Carrollton Woman’s meeting was held at Pat’s Place Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.

    Carolyn Stout, education program chairman, introduced Carroll County Public Library Director Hillary Arney, who told about the library being funded 85 percent by taxes. She said that so many services are being offered through the library to Carroll County Citizens that it makes it a real bargain.

  • Duncans welcome baby daughter

    Crystal Duncan Taylor of Bedford, Ky. would like to announce the birth of her daughter, Catherine Arianna Duncan, born 4:10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Norton Suburban Hospital in Louisville, Ky. She weighed 7 pounds and 4 ounces and was 19.75 inches long.

    Big sister, Mollie Abbigal Gardner, 22 months old, helped welcome Catherine home.
    Maternal grandparents are William and Gladys Duncan of Bedford Ky.; great-grandparents Maureen Duncan and the late Lester “Rusty” Duncan of Carrollton Ky.

  • Orange, tomato join flavors for a delicious dish

    The first time I ever tasted oranges and tomatoes together was in Atlanta, Ga. in 1990. It was totally by accident or fate, whichever you want to call it.  As the first vice-president of the League of Women Voters for Georgia, I was attending a pitch-in luncheon meeting. If my memory serves me right, it was basically a salad luncheon.  I don’t even recall what salad I took, actually, I probably took dessert.

    Alicia Stigers and Michael Shuler announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage.

    The bride-elect is a 2008 graduate of Owen County High School and is majoring in criminal justice at KCTCS. She is  employed at the Carroll County Detention Center in Carrollton.

    The groom-to-be is a 2008 graduate from Owen County High School and works for Dana Manufacturing in Dry Ridge, Ky.

    The wedding is planned for Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Owenton, Ky.
