We are approaching another busy season of fun in the sun, weddings, backyard parties and more.
With food costs going up by the minute, having a garden might help. Which means more things to do, but oh, the benefits of having your very own stash of food. It certainly will help to keep the summer food costs down.
On the news the other day, they said flour has gone up about 35 percent. A local restaurant owner told me that some of his food has gone up 100 percent.
The Senior Center of Carroll County, 110 Sixth Street, will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Day luncheon Friday, April 27, at 11:30 a.m. at the center. The luncheon is planned for all volunteers who have worked for the Senior Center throughout the year.
The Carroll County High School Football Boosters’ annual golf scramble is 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Ky. Cost is $45 per person; each team has four players. Since spring is here, I thought I would repeat some of the gelatin salad recipes I have previously printed in this column, plus add a new one that will also be delightful to serve for all those Derby festivities coming soon.
I was delighted to try it at our condo Easter dinner. It is delicious, and I was so honored to be given the recipe to share with you.
The first two recipes are reprints and the newest recipe is the very last one, but not the least because it fits so well with these other lovely gelatin salads or desserts.
David Day, 11, of Taylorsville sat outside Carrollton Sheet Metal on Friday, selling popsicles for 25 cents to raise money for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. The company is owned by his grandparents Dave and Barb Clymer. His sister Emma, 5, suffers from seizures. Last year, David donated $15 to the hospital after one day of selling his wares. “I don’t want people to go through what I do,” he said.
