Today at 3 p.m., Linda Brown-Price, Kenton county family and consumer sciences agent, teaches a special program, “Let the Consumer Beware!” at the Carroll County Extension office.

Con-sumer fraud, an age-old problem, has become more sophisticated with the expansion of the internet and direct-marketing techniques.

The dates for 4-H Camp have changed to Monday, July 2 to Thursday, July 5. Camper applications are now available at the Carroll County Extension Office.

The age for campers is 9-13. All campers must be age 9 by July 2, 2012. The cost of camp is $165 per camper.

Applications and payment are due to the Extension office no later than May 30. Please do not delay in getting in your application, for there are a limited number of camper spots.

Adult counselors, junior counselors and counselors in training are also needed. 

A Shiitake mushroom demonstration will take place at the home of Dan and Perla Harkins in Trimble County at 1:30 p.m. March 8. 

Organ-ized through the Trimble County Cooper-ative Exten-sion Service, the demonstration will involve inoculating logs with shiiktake mushroom spore.

Tobacco production update

Our area was hit by tornadoes and other severe weather last week. Many families and individuals had homes, farms and businesses damaged,  including weather damage, power outages and numerous other loses.

If you have had power outages and were without electricity or a cold source, foods stored in refrigerators and freezers can become unsafe. Bacteria in food grow rapidly at temperatures between 40 and 140 degrees. If these foods are eaten, people can become very sick.
