  • Pulled cream candy, needlework classes set for February

    Do you yearn for the wonderful cream candy made by your grandmother or mother in days gone past? If so, you can learn to make it yourself.
     
    On Thursday, Feb. 24, we are having a cream candy making class from 6-8 p.m. at the Extension office, 500 Floyd Drive in Carrollton.

    This class was originally planned for November, but due to an illness by our instructor it had to be postponed. Even though the weather is getting warmer, we still wanted to offer this class.

  • Photography workshop, club sessions set for February

    Do you have a camera that you still haven’t figured out? The new digital cameras are mini-computers and can be quite complicated.

    I will be offering the first of two beginning photography workshops this Saturday, Feb. 19 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Extension Office. The second workshop will build on the first but attending the first isn’t a requirement for attending the second.

  • International luncheon offers a taste of China Feb. 22

    The Carroll County Extension Homemakers have selected China as their country of interest for the annual International Luncheon Tuesday, Feb. 22. The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Carroll County Extension Service office, 500 Floyd Drive in Carrollton.

    Guest speaker will be Caroline Reisner, who recently returned from teaching English in Jiujiang, China.

    Reisner will share her experiences living in the country. In her presentation she will cover women’s role and the empowerment of women in current Chinese culture.

  • Is brown bread whole grain? What’s color got to do with it?

    Whole grains consist of the entire grain seed, usually called the kernel.

    The kernel has three components: bran, germ, and endosperm. All grains are whole grains when they are first harvested and if they keep these three in the final food product, they qualify as a whole grain.

  • Wear red to fight heart disease

    On National Wear Red Day®, Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, millions of Americans will join in the fight against heart disease in women by wearing red to stop heart disease in our lifetime.

  • Carroll County cattlemen to meet

    The next meeting of the Carroll County Cattlemen’s Association will be tomorrow night, Thursday, Jan. 27, at 6 p.m. There will be a meal followed by a business meeting. We will be electing officers as part of the meeting. The program will be presented by Dr. Ray Smith and will cover dealing with pastures and hay fields following last year’s drought. If you plan to attend please RSVP to the office at 732-7030 by noon Thursday, Jan. 27 for a meal count.

  • Jan. 24 workshop shows how to grow the perfect tomato

    Have you ever grown the perfect tomato? Have you come close to growing a perfect tomato?

    Next Monday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m. at the Carroll County Exten-sion Office there will be a workshop on growing the perfect tomato. Tim Coolong, Extension vegetable production specialist, will be presenting a program on growing the perfect tomato. When Tim and I were talking about the topic he said he didn’t think he had ever grown a perfect tomato but was sure he could talk about how to do it.
