    There is always something special about the transition from winter to spring for me.  Grass greening, daffodils blooming, buds beginning to show on the trees—it is truly a wondrous sight to see the earth waking up after its long winter slumber.

    Underneath those pretty flowers and fresh grass, the soil temperatures are warming up which means planting season is on its way and the farmer’s market season will arrive soon.

  • Body condition scores affect cattle rebreeding efficiency

    A successful breeding season actually begins with management decisions made at calving.

    Cattlemen can impact rebreeding efficiency by focusing on body condition score (BCS), early assistance during calving difficulty, scheduling a breeding soundness exam for the herd sires, planning their herd reproductive health program, and developing a plan to regulate estrus in their first-calf heifers and late-calving cows.  Today, let us focus on the body condition score.

  • Ag Tag $10 donation benefits 4-H

    Kentucky 4-H is one of the most important and influential youth programs in our state and our county. Across Kentucky over 255,000 youth ages nine to 19 learn about leadership, citizenship and life skills in “learn-by-doing” experiences such as communications and public speaking, through agriculture projects like livestock care, science projects, 4-H camp, Teen Conference, and many other 4-H programs and activities.

    Here in Carroll County, 1,074 individuals are enrolled in 4-H. 

  • Award Winners | March 3, 2016

    Andrea and Evan Searcy of Carroll County (pictured) were chosen as one of 15 state winners of the Kentucky Saves Piggy Bank Design Contest. They demonstrated artistic creativity along with comprehension of the importance of saving money.

    Andrea and Evan were recognized as part of the Kentucky Saves Week celebration at the Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
