  • What is true love?

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, and this means that love is in the air, the grocery store shelves are full of candy, and hundreds of men across Carroll County are waiting until the 14th to buy presents on their way home from work. Yes, Valentine’s Day is coming—that day when we show the people we love how much we love them by buying them stuffed animals, cards, boxes of chocolates, dinner and flowers.

  • Who are you trying to please? Galatians 1:10
  • A view from the mountaintop

As I sit at my home office desk on this Monday Martin Luther King National Holiday, and as I drink coffee while eating crackers with my dog “Tuffy”. As I attempt to write down what my brain was thinking about at 1:30 a.m., one cannot in any semblance listen to the Rev. Dr. King’s speeches and not think of those that had important roles in our learning, growing, and doing.

  • Life lessons according to Facebook

There’s always something new to click on Facebook and recently it’s been “What Has 2016 Taught You?”

According to Facebook, here’s what I’ve supposedly learned this past year:

“Forgiving is easy, it’s trusting them again that’s hard.”

The folks or whoever/whatever at Facebook added, “The past year has changed you completely. You’ve seen your life from a completely different angle and this led you to new experiences.”

    Hmmm.

  • Are people actually color blind?

We have never seen him driving. We thought he either doesn’t like to drive or that he just can’t drive. He gets to the stop light, but instead of stopping he asks: “What is the color of the stop light?” with no intention to stop at the red light. That’s how we found out why he didn’t drive; my friend is color blind deficient.

  • A lesson from the pagans

Because we’ve heard the story of the Magi many times, we’re familiar with the gifts they left for the child Jesus. We may not appreciate the gift they left for us.

  • Sharing the gospel

Carroll County volunteers participated in the KY 120 Bible Reading Marathon, reading the Bible 24/7 from midnight Jan. 1 through 6 p.m. Jan. 4.
