  • God helps Christians recharge their souls, just like a battery

True fact: I am not a professional photographer.

Another true fact: I am in desperate need of — something.

As I write this I’m sitting in a park pavilion early on a Saturday morning. I’m supposed to be taking photos of a kids’ triathlon for the newspaper, but right now, as the littlest kids are in the pool and on their bikes and running their little legs off, I’m not taking their pictures.

Recently, I bought a jazzy new camera, a red one, with a zoomy lens.

  • Behold the wooden cross

We are celebrating the final week of the Easter Season. This Sunday we begin celebrating a new spiritual reality—the feast of Pentecost—in which the fullness of the spirit came to rest over the apostles (Acts of the Apostles 2:1-12).

Freed of their fears following the crucifixion, and strengthened by the power of the spirit, they were ready to whole-heartedly preach, teach and heal in the name of Jesus Christ.

  • God never promised he would give us ‘happiness’

A few weeks back I wrote about “What’s making me happy,” which got a great response from people.

Some sent emails or stopped me in the market to tell me what’s making them happy. Seems everyone was riding the happiness train.

But then someone pointed out that God never promised us happiness and that those who pursue it never obtain it.

There’s always a buzz kill in every crowd.

Still, the person had a good point and one worth exploring.

  • Can I believe in God in a world of doubt?

Despite the plot-breaking effect in your favorite police drama, confessions are a mixed blessing. On the one hand, it is great to know the truth. On the other hand, the truth often complicates things.

  • See the good that comes from building bridges, not fences

There once was a carpenter who visited one of two brothers who had recently grown resentful with each other over a misunderstanding over the farm they had managed together for the past 40 years.
