  • Are you a cracked pot?

    A water bearer in India had two large pots, both hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master’s house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

    For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master’s house.

    Calvary Full Gospel Church is offering its CAYR Dinner, end of the month meal Friday, Jan.  27 from 5-7 p.m. at Westside Firehouse in Prestonville. All are welcome for a free meal, fun and fellowship.

    Hymn sing set for Bedford church

    Trimble County Hymn Sing will be held the first Thursday each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 2 at Bedford Pentecostal Church.

  • Just when a person thinks he’s alone, God rides up on a tractor to the rescue

    Years ago, we had a neighbor, Sandy, who moved into the house around the bend from ours.

    She and her husband and two kids moved to Florida from New Jersey where her husband had struggled with a drug addiction — and a girlfriend.

    They came to make a new start, which only lasted a few weeks. Sandy’s husband decided he wasn’t ready to give up his girlfriend and moved back to New Jersey.

  • ‘They may all be one’  

    In the Gospel of St. John 17:21 we read Jesus praying “That they may all be one.” This week is dedicated for a week of prayer for Christian Unity.

    Last Saturday, the ministerial association organized an ecumenical gathering at St. John Church hall. Breakfast and talk by former pastor of Methodist church, Shannon Boaz, expressed our Christian unity. She asked everyone in the group to share a few words of appreciation about others. She reminded us the letter of St. Paul to the Corinthians chapter 12 ‘One Body, Many Parts.’

  • It’s time to look at life and avoid complacency

    The Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard wrote a story about a wild duck. The wild duck was flying with his fellow comrades in the springtime northward across Europe. At one point during the flight the flock spotted a barnyard and decided to descend and rest. When they landed they immediately noticed the barnyard was occupied by a large number of tame ducks. The wild duck did not realize at the time that this chance encounter would change the course of his life.

    Ecumenical breakfast to be held Jan. 14 at St. John’s Catholic Church

    Jan. 18-25 is celebrated as the Week for Christian Unity.

    The Carroll County Ministerial Association is coordinating an ecumenical gathering.

    It includes breakfast in the parish hall at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 9 a.m.

    The Rev. Chris White and his team will prepare the pancakes.

    The guest speaker is The Rev. Shannon Boaz, former pastor of the United Methodist Church. Everyone is welcome.

  • A love of buildings shows they’re built for great things

    Last month my husband and I went to Charlotte, N.C., one of our favorite cities.

    We stayed uptown — which I would call downtown, but what do I know? — right in the middle of all the tall buildings and skyscrapers.

    I have a confession to make. I love buildings. I mean, I love, l-o-v-e buildings, like chocoholics love chocolate and pie-aholics love pie. Well, maybe not that much, but I love architecture and design, Gothic arches and flying buttresses.
