The Family Worship Center in Carrollton is spearheading a relief effort in support of those affected by the recent tornado in Joplin, Mo.

Currently, many of the residents of Joplin are without electricity and water, so many of the items being sent (canned goods, boxed foods, etc.) are currently unusable.

Those wishing to support the relief efforts may donate the following items:

•Gift cards from Home Depot, Lowe’s, Target or Walmart

•Bottled water and protein bars

You might ask yourself the question: Is the Bible the book for me? Well I can honestly tell you, the Bible is the book that God has left for every human being, from the youngest to the oldest. It is an invaluable book; it can transform the life of everyone. God’s advice is timeless and is what He desires for humanity.

How would my life be if I followed God’s Word:

• I would understand that there is a trial after death. Hebrews 9:27

•I would obey the commands of God. Psalms 119:60

A few weeks ago, severe storms and tornadoes ravaged Alabama. Many people lost their lives; many more lost their homes and more. 

It was a story that, like the Japanese earthquake, became so up-close and transparent with the aid of technology. Because of the instant access to details, videos, and nearness of current events today, teenagers and children have the potential to be instantly exposed to the same information that adults once had to wait for once every 24 hours on the 6 o’clock news. 

Quakers, the Religious Society of Friends, also known as “Friends,” will be  meeting for unprogrammed worship every Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. beginning May 7 at the Port Royal Methodist Church, 8230 Port Royal Road (State Hwy. 193), Port Royal.
