  • Jesus asked followers to take risks in their life

When it comes to traveling, my oldest daughter thinks she’s cursed.

I don’t know about “cursed,” but she definitely has had her share of mishaps.

Last summer she and granddaughter Caroline took a trip from their home in Virginia to visit my other daughter in Charlotte, N.C.

The three of them went to Charleston, S.C. and Caroline barfed, which put a damper on their plans. Then Caroline stayed sick, ending Alison’s plans for a side trip to visit a friend on the way home.

  • Endurance and God’s help can lead to a strong finish

In the day we live in, it appears everyone likes to start things – all kinds of ways to begin things like marriage, a new job, school or college, participation on a team, etc. Though starting is a part of life and beginning comes before the end, there seems to be a problem with finishing.

  • Marriage is not outdated; God created this institution

I have been thinking about marriage every day for almost six weeks. Not the prospect of getting married—I have already taken the plunge and even have a ring that I wear each day to prove it. Rather, marriage has been on my mind partly because weddings and anniversaries are prevalent this time of year and partly because marriage has been the topic of my sermons in recent weeks.

  • Marriage joins a couple as one in unity of peace

Two major happenings took place for me in January earlier this year.

First, I got a year older. Second, I got to celebrate being married a year longer. That makes 35 years together for my wife Pam and I. And they said it wouldn’t last.

Some people don’t understand what marriage is really all about. From the union of the first man and first woman, God has been clear about the purpose of the marriage relationship: “a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.” (Genesis 2:24)
