  • Sabbath rest 101

A few weeks ago, my pastor’s sermon made me squirm in my seat.

We’ve been studying the Old Testament book of Exodus. That’s the book that talks about God rescuing the Israelites from their centuries of slavery in Egypt, all the plagues upon the Egyptians, how Moses parted the Red Sea and fed the Israelites with manna -- honey-tasting bread from heaven.

At one point, Moses meets with God on Mt. Sinai where God gives him two stone tablets with his law written on them.

God’s law is a gift to his people, my pastor said.

  • Reputation isn’t everything

“Never let a good reputation get in the way of trusting God.”

That seems to be the unlikely motto behind the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus the tax collector in Luke 19:1-10.

  • Dreams are a gift from God; don’t get lost in life’s disappointments

As I was thinking about this article I began to focus on the Power of Dreams. Dreams are the ideas, goals, quests, desires God put on the inside of us. As we grow older we sometimes feel our time of dreams have passed, lack of fulfillment, un-met projects, wavering passion or we are simply running out of time.

  • The churchbell serves as a call to pray to God

I recently worked on adjusting the bell system for our church, which was quite out of date. I adjusted the toll times for our weekend services and even our daily services, along with improving the hourly chimes during the day. It inspired me to consider the use of bells in churches throughout the centuries.

  • What is true love?

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away, and this means that love is in the air, the grocery store shelves are full of candy, and hundreds of men across Carroll County are waiting until the 14th to buy presents on their way home from work. Yes, Valentine’s Day is coming—that day when we show the people we love how much we love them by buying them stuffed animals, cards, boxes of chocolates, dinner and flowers.
