  • You have a choice today

You wake up early in the morning, You have responsibilities to fulfill today. Your main job is to choose what kind of day you’re going to have.

Today you can complain because the weather is rainy or you can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today you can feel sad that you don’t have more money or you can be glad that your finances encourage you to plan your purchases wisely and guide you away from waste.

Today you can grumble about your health or you can rejoice that you are alive.

  • Humans cannot fix things on their own

As I write this article for the paper this week, I pondered and prayed about what to say. After a time, I came to this–Our country is being divided by an enemy that cannot be seen. I am not talking about race against race; the left against the right; social prejudices; all the protesting, etc.; or even our president saying or implying things he shouldn’t. I am talking about an enemy who comes to steal, kill and destroy. Jesus talked in John 10:10 about this enemy. Jesus called him a thief–I call him Satan.

  • God gives us gifts of power, love, sound mind to overcome fear

Everyone knows what it is like to be afraid. We all have things that we are afraid of.  Some people are afraid of storms or spiders, and some people are terrified of snakes.  There are hidden fears that motivate us, too. Fear of failure causes many people to never start or even try anything that is not completely safe. Fear of rejection makes us afraid to do anything that could draw criticism or give someone a chance to laugh at us.

  • Catholics celebrate the birth of the Blessed Mary

Dear friends, the Catholic Church celebrated the birthday of Blessed Mary on Sept. 8 (Nativity of Bl.Virgin Mary).

Life magazine estimated that the prayer “Hail Mary” is said 2 billion times every day, and each year, 5-10 million people make a pilgrimage to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Many others visit Marian sites elsewhere in the world. Mary is prayed through as an advocate and helper, and even in the sports area there is a reference to her power: the last desperate pass by a losing football team is called a “Hail Mary pass.”

  • Serving those who need Serving

By now we have all watched the many news reports, seen the pictures of flooded neighborhoods and interstates, and listened to the stories of survival and rescue that have been brought about by the disaster of Hurricane Harvey. To consider the extent of the damage, as well as the loss that so many millions of people have suffered, is almost too much devastation to process.

  • Reclaimed, restored, better than new

Last week my husband and I took a short trip to Winter Garden, a town not too far from Orlando.

We went to the historic downtown district with its trendy businesses housed in restored storefronts from as far back as the early 1900s.

A restaurant we went in was originally Cappleman Brothers Grocery Store, built in 1912.

As my husband read the menu, I read about the history of the building -- the original brick, the gothic stained glass panels in the front window that came from an old Presbyterian church.
