  • Calming of the storm comes with one’s faith

As you read this I will have returned from my vacation at the beach, having returned to deadlines and ringing phones and not enough hours in the day and probably too much caffeine and not enough exercise and sleep.

But today, as I write this, I’m still on vacation, watching the gulf waters crash rhythmically on the shore. I’ve been out here, sitting on the sand, not exactly comfortable but transfixed on the vastness of the green-gray water in front of me.

  • Christ can help everyone break chains of addiction

I had a conversation with a man earlier this month who was truly struggling with life.

Down on his luck, hungry, broke, and tired he came by my door. I sat with him and listened to his story and near the end I said “God wants to help you through this.”

  • Transformation plays an important role in life

The smell of fresh cut grass and leather is in the air.  It is once again football season and the lights at the high school stay on a little later, now that Friday nights are here.

Saturday mornings offer up ESPN’s College Gameday and many people watch the pregame show with anticipation as another football season is unraveling. A fan of the gridiron can find a game on TV just about any day of the week now.  Football is everywhere.

As a former footballer myself, I find it interesting, how rapidly the game is changing and evolving.

  • Isis will cower before Jesus

Crucial conflict is found in Matthew’s gospel, Chapter 17. A boy is possessed by demons who throw him mercilessly into fire and water. The boy suffers severely from demonic possession. No one is able to help the boy victimized by evil spirits—not even the disciples of Jesus. Frustrated with their lack of faith, Jesus himself comes forward, rebukes the demons, and drives them out of the boy. The father is most grateful.
